I've been meaning to get a new tattoo, but I hadn't really thought about it, but hey, jump at it at every chance you get. It's true what they say, once you get your first tattoo, you'll never be able to stop. :/ No regrets, really, because I really love my tattoos, but I can't really speak for the people I wrote about last week.
That's what used to make tattoos so special and unique. Tattoos are meant to (serve as identification markers when you die and your body is badly mangled) be meaningful, with whatever design you choose meaning more to you than to anyone else -- it's something you'd want to keep on you at all times; something to be proud of, a reminder of a key moment in your life that you'd never want to forget.
But not anymore.
The MoodINQ system can make people queasy, but it's actually quite simple: a canvas containing proprietary E ink is inserted under your skin (yikes), and after a few days, you're good to go with your new freeform tattoo. You can select your design or upload your own through a software on your computer, and use the MoodINQ wand (which connects via USB to your computer) to configure your canvas. Simply run the wand across your canvas and the proprietary E ink will form the chosen design.
The link above leads to the ThinkGeek page of the product, where you can buy the wand and software. The actual canvas and implementation is available through their partner institutions, and prices vary based on the size of the canvas and where it's being installed.
I'm still going to go retro (because 1) I don't have the money to buy this awesome thing, and 2) that's probably not available in the Ph yet, and won't be for a long time, because it's an April Fool's Joke) and get a tattoo done the old-fashioned way (yes, with sticks and stones). Does this invention make me happy? Yes, of course it does. I'm glad that we've come so far in terms of technology, but I can't help but think that it takes away from the experience of getting a tattoo. But that's just me being a hipster.
Sorry, did that piss you off? Haha! Some things are just too good to be true! Congrats on reading through to the end of the post before freaking out though! As promised, have some photos of the boyfriend's awesome ink!
